- Please introduce yourselves and describe the place where you live. I’m of Hungarian extraction, I was a child when my parents emigrated. My wife Nancy can be almost considered to be of Hungarian extraction because her maternal grandmother was Hungarian. When we met in the early 1980’s, we still lived in New York State. We both enjoyed horseback riding and also competed as amateurs –   both of us in dressage and Nancy also competed in eventing.   At the same time we were also into dogs. At the time we had rescue dogs   and we showed them in obedience and agility. At the time mixed breed dogs or those with no registration were not allowed to compete in AKC dog sport or obedience events, but there were other organizations which allowed these dogs to participate in their competitions and earn titles.   We were not interested in breed shows then, so it wasn’t important to us to have purebred, pedigreed dogs.   Our 22 acre farm is in the northwestern ...

Lena Johansson talks about her pumi history -                      Let’s talk about the beginning . How did you find the pumi? A little history: Kennelprefix Mariell de Marque was founded 1972 and the name is coming from the composition of the first and lastname: Ingemarie Gradell. De Marque is French and means brand. Ingemarie started with the French sheeperd dog Briard. She was there from the beginning in Scandinavia. 1975 was the year when the first briard litter was born in the kennel, 40 years ago, so it is not easy to summarize all this years. This should not be about Briard but I can't ignore that during 30 years 268 Briard with prefix Mariell de Marque was born divided in 39 litters.     A kutyák évezredek óta a társaink, és az idők során egyedi módokat fejlesztettek ki a velünk való kommunikációra. Az emberekkel ellentétben, akik elsősorban a verbális kommunikációra támaszkodnak, a kutyák különféle jeleket használnak érzéseik és szándékaik közvetítésére. Ezeknek a jeleknek a megértése nagymértékben erősítheti az emberek és a kutyák közötti kapcsolatot.   A kutyák rendkívül kifejező állatok. A kommunikációhoz testbeszédet használnak, például farokcsóválást, arckifejezéseket és fülelhelyezést ami a pumi esetében különösen jellemző, ugyanis rendkívül „játékos” fülei vannak. A   farok csóválás gyakran boldogságot jelent, míg a lapított fülek félelmet vagy agressziót jelezhetnek. Ezeknek a vizuális jeleknek a felismerése elengedhetetlen a kutya érzelmi állapotának értelmezéséhez.
